Cold Weather Safety

To pitch the product Fortress Clothing, you first need to understand the dangers that accompany cold weather. For this pitch preparation, you'll learn to identify winter gloves, learn about a plethora of outside winter weather hazards, and learn about how snowstorms form.

Complete the first 3 activities to prepare for your pitch.

1. Read Identifying a True Winter Glove

To start our journey into (P)PPE - Polar PPE - let's look at the hands and what really matters when picking out how to cover them.

Please read the below article on How to Identify a True Winter Glove, paying particular attention to the "Anatomy of a True Winter Work Glove" section.

Speaking of gloves, did you know you can get those at part of the Safety Stipend at Isett? Check it out by searching "stipend" on OneNote!

2. Watch Cold Weather Safety Tips

For your second activity, watch "Construction safety: Jobsites in Cold Weather" (5:50).

While this video is shot on a construction site, the tips really apply to all who spend time outside or in cold buildings in the winter months.

Pay special attention to the sections on protective clothing in order to pitch your cold weather PPE product.

3. Play: Create a Snowstorm

For your last activity, you'll learn about environmental conditions that allow a snowstorm to form. We'll look at nor'easters and upslope storms.

Here in PA, we deal with Nor'easters. Upslope storms are primarily in the West. However, there's a good simulator for upslope storms.

Read just the Nor'easter & Upslope sections in the article below:

Now, test your knowledge with the simulator. Play the "Create a Snowstorm" simulator to create an upslope snowstorm.

Screenshot your completed storm for submission.
